Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

By NannaK

NOT a good day

This awful picture sort of sums it up ...a streaky blip with the iphone out of the car window at 70 miles per hour on the freeway, cattywampus support posts and blurry background. If you squint you might just make out a stripe on an abstract canvas. We left Seattle very early this morning for the ferry from Vancouver B.C. to the gulf islands to check on our cabin as a tree has fallen crushing a metal shed (this was going to be my blip!) and rearranging the little house over the well pump. And we don't know if any pipes have broken or froze in the recent winter storm when there was no power for a bit. Well, the old ferry (replacing the other old ferry which was being serviced) died and was cancelled, after we all waited awhile for it to be fixed. We tried to call the fellow who we were supposed to meet there to clean up the big mess. He wasn't there anyway. (do you know about "island time"?) SO, having pressing family obligations anyway, we turned around and drove back home (It's not that it's THAT far to the ferry - a 2 hour 20 minute trip over the border..( After waiting for the ferry it should be a 50 min ride, then 10-15 drive to a small marina where we load our little runabout boat and 10-15 minutes to our island. about 5 hours in all) We got home in the afternoon expecting to see workers in our condo who had promised to do some work on this project begun in August. They hadn't come. ("Big city time"????) Doesn't anything work anymore?

Well, we just had to talk to family, take a walk and then went out to eat in the neighborhood with some friends. Feel a bit better now. But a long day.

Here's the good parts of the day; did get an email that the island guy did after all make it there in the afternoon and sent photos of the large tree he cut up and the damage which isn't too drastic. but of course we still don't know about all the pipes. And the other good part of the day is that the US border didn't take away the food we had brought with us!

That's enough and way too many words. Good night!!
