Canada's Game

Nothing more Canadian than a game of shinny on the outdoor rink!

Thanks to everyone for their warm comments on my blip yesterday. Very much appreciated!

Unfortunately that is a cold reality for too many people in Calgary.

Calgary experienced a huge economic boom in the starting in the late 1990's through to the current recession. It became the fastest growing metroploitan area in Canada. People came from across the country, unfortunately many without jobs or a plan for housing. Housing prices jumped more than 50% within a few years. The result of all this ... increased homelessness.

In 1992 there were an estimated 447 people living on the streets in Calgary. By 2006, that number had climbed to 4060.

20% of the homeless in Calgary and children or youth!
