Pedal Person

Pedal People is a small recycling and waste hauling service in Northampton. It's "worker owned and human-powered"--the ultimate green business, one could say.

One of its workers lives next door to us, and I've blipped her heading out toward our small downtown. The little company just received Mass Recycle's 2010 award for its business. The award notes in part, "Pedal People's twelve cyclists use trailers propelled by bicycles providing curbside pickup of trash, recycling, and compost to 480 households, 37 businesses and 80 public barrels."

I've seen their riders around town for years pulling their trailers (generally far more loaded than here), but only recently found out more about them.

(Mass Recycle is a statewide coalition dedicated to promoting benefits of recycling in Massachusetts.)
