Sheepish Contraptioneer

MY TREE!

Says the squirrel.

I was outside doing some yard work and I heard a noise. I looked just in time to see our long-haired orange cat chasing a squirrel up a power pole. The cat got about halfway up with the squirrel screeching and taunting him from a couple of feet higher.

The cat took the bait, and laboriously clawed his way up the pole some more, the delighted squirrel continuing his taunt from even higher, until the squirrel ran out of pole at the top with the cat just below him.

Then the squirrel raced down the other side of the pole, taunting all the way, to about four feet above the ground. There, continuing his taunt, he watched the cat carefully back his way down the pole until he was almost in reach of the squirrel below.

The squirrel then raced back up to the top, running over the disgruntled cat on his way. The cat then backed the rest of the way down to the ground with the squirrel doing his best imitation of the Frenchman taunting the English in Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail!

So now, its been two hours since the squirrel first climbed up there. I took the cat to the other side of the house and fed him, but now he's back with a couple of other cats, watching the squirrel from the bottom of the pole. Squirrel is in for the wait, and has found himself a nice perch.

Tune in tomorrow for the next episode of 'The Cats and The Squirrel'
