Barbara Day

On the name day of Saint Barbara we cut branches (in our region mostly cherry tree branches). In a vase they will blossum at Christmas and bring some light in dark days.

In my school years at a catholic girls school (ok, I know) our principal Sister Barbara gave us the last hour off on the 4th of December: All pupils would gather up in the morning at her office to congratulate. (She had no choice!)

I don't know if Sister Barbara is still alive, but if she is I hope she likes to think about all the pupils she made happy on her name day.
