Visitors to the Garden

With the cold spell a constant stream of visitors ......

The Blue-Tits? Prayer

Ten tiny bodies
All huddled together
Ten tiny beaks
All relying on mother
Or father to feed
A never ending demand
Little beaks opened upwards
Time to give them a hand . . . .

So you put out the mealworms
To help if you can
While the weather gets chilly
Or the rain drowns the land
Their lives are so fragile
Their bodies so small
You try to protect them
But you can?t do it all

We know that the parents must work all the day
Flying in wind, through the rain, come what may
To find food for those babies
So fragile, so frail
Let the weather be kind
Pray there?s no thunder, no hail.

We just hope that the outcome is happy and bright
That the cat doesn?t get them
Or they don?t have a fright
If the woodpecker comes a tapping along
And they shake in the nest, until he is gone.

One day they?ll be ready
To fly far away
They?ll leave us forever on that adventurous day
Their future?s uncertain but you did do your best
To share those fine moments of young birds in the nest
Lots of people were happy to spy on your tits
You gave so much pleasure; you had so many hits!

Wish them luck in their future,
That?s all we can say
As we watch, fingers crossed, as they all fly away
