He will be spinning in his grave

It's the day of "the vote" on Tuition Fees and the Liberal Democrats face the prospect of splitting their vote in much the same way that the old Liberal Party split in the early 20th Century. David Lloyd George - the Welsh Wizard - was the last Liberal Prime Minister and a member of parliament for 55 years. As Chancellor of the Exchequer in the pre-war government he oversaw the basis of the introduction of the Welfare State and its foundations.

One imagines he would not have been happy about the outcome of the vote that will take place today - whatever that might be. It's a lose-lose situation for his modern-day counterparts. They are learning about the serious nature of politics the hard way.
