double take

My husband and I often walk with our dogs Asia and Chloe at De Soto National Memorial park in Bradenton, Florida. The walking trails there run along a bluff looking out over the Manatee River, through a mangrove forest and along a small beach. My husband and I have even sailed to De Soto and landed on this beach, then gotten out and walked! It is a truly beautiful place. I could walk there every day and not get tired of it.

The park has set up interpretive signs and life-size cut-outs of photos of actors who dressed up to play a part related to the De Soto Expedition in 1539. Sometimes when I walk by these cut-outs, like the one above taken today, I do a double-take.
