Traffic planning vs. history

Today took our car to the repair shop as the windshield needed to be changed due to a crack I got last summer from a rock that charged towards me under the back wheels of some truck during one Helsinki trip.

The repair took three hours as the silica needed to dry properly indoors due to the cold weather outside as this morning the thermometer showed -29 degrees. Luckily came prepared and the 2km walk to and back from the downtown did not felt so bad. Visited record shop where again bought few LPs, drank hot chocolate at one cafe and also bought still few small presents to the family members. After came home decorated the tree bit more and prepared for the eve.

This spot was on my way this afternoon and have many times thought about this traffic planning vs. history dilemma. The building on the right is historically valuable but is that narrow place enough for the people walking or driving their bikes? I guess there might be other options also to consider as the place is among one popular route to the downtown.. ;)
