Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A white Christmas in Newburgh!

A lovely Christmas Day - lots of snow, a blue sky and temperatures above freezing for the first time in weeks. These are the ruins of the old mussel shed. Mussels have been harvested on the Ythan for millennia. Originally for food but in recent centuries for bait for long line fishermen. This old stone building was where the mussels were sorted and bagged, right up to the late 1960s.
