Wigeon

This American Wigeon was among a large flock of ducks on the golf course lake. Neither Peterson's nor Sibley's Field Guides to Western Birds shows this duck. It was identified in the National Geographic Field Guide. This area is shown as within the winter range for the American Wigeon.

The flock of ducks had many varieties and I think that they are passing through the area so I plan to check the spot tomorrow morning. I did see scaups and northern shovelers. Will try to photograph more of these varieties which seem to be fairly rare in the desert.
