White-fronted tern landing on rocks, Miramar

Large numbers of white-fronted terns (Tara, Sterna striata) are chasing shoaling fish in Wellington harbour. I took this photo on rocks at the northern end of the Miramar peninsula. Many terns had gathered there, including some juveniles. The parents were feeding the chicks with translucent sprats.
