Mandy's Snaps

Manor Road Garage

I'm told that this is the last remaining Art Deco in Britain to be renovated (not sure if that is true).

Anyway, we are lucky enough to have this on our doorstep, and it has recently been made a listed building. The owner had wanted to knock it down and build housing on the land. Instead, the local residents fought to get it listed by English Heritage, and now the owner has sold it, the original building will be restored, and become part of an Art Deco style apartment block. Apparently the petrol pumps will become working street lamps, and the lettering will remain on the building exactly as it is.

Missed a great moment about 18 months ago when it was cleared out for the first time in 40 years. Apparently, there were some fantastic cars still inside, and a couple of steam rollers in the back yard which had trees growing up through them.

Will keep an eye on it's progress over the coming months, and look forward to the fencing being taken down so that I can get a bit closer to photograph it.
