Land of Enchantment

San Juan Mountain Highway

Snows came in last night. About 4 inches of beautiful powder mixed with the steam from the sulphur springs in town. Visibility was becoming pretty bad. We decided to check a day early and head back to Corrales.

The journey lasted about twice as long as the trip up to Pagosa Springs on Monday. I was sorry to cancel a third day of skiing and soaking, but the mountain roads back to New mexico are just too treacherous in the snow. A dangerous blizzard two years ago led us to promise that we would never take that kind of chance again. That year the roof of Chama's only grocery store collapsed under the weight of the snow.
