Loch Leven

Another day, another walk on top of lots of slippery ice. Tried out a contraption with carpet tacks in it that I secured around my boots but it didn't work for long. Had promise though.

Went to Loch Leven because thought it might have been a bit better than Forfar. Didn't work out that way. Bits of the path were OK but spent an awful lot of time doing that sideways walk with your legs as far apart as possible - or doing the jumping from patches of green (grass this time) dance - to avoid slipping on the ice. Needless to say sore and tired as a result.

Watched an Attenborough programme last night and decided penguins have the right idea - down on the belly and slide along. Must be a bit chilly though and I guess they are not too worried by dog owners who seem ever so reluctant to pick up after their beloved pets! Maybe I'll give that one a miss... if Tiso's don't have any more of those little crampon things in, I'll need to think again. Apparently there's more snow coming over the next three days.

Oh and more ice walking on water. The little island here was about 400 yards off shore and it looked as though you could have made it out there without any trouble. However, while the intrepid man explorer made his way out a bit to play some bizarre form of ice hockey with his hiking stick (ostensibly to try and check where ice became water, personally I think he just likes hitting things), I stayed firmly rooted to the bank and took some piccies. This is one of them.
