alice's adventures

A dangerous pastime

A family bike ride sounds like a healthy and pleasurable way to pass the time with loved ones but in fact it is riddled with risks for small boys (surely not so risky for the girl rider).

All that weaving around too close to the edge of the pavement, followed by the same on the edge of the towpath. There is so much to look at that it is hard to cycle in anything even resembling a straight line. Too much sibling pushing and passing which only leads to wheel entanglement. So many bridges with huge drop offs over train tracks, water and hard surfaces that need to be scaled and looked over. So many dog leads to get entangled in and pushchairs to collide with. Dare to suggest that a canal dweller put his dog on a lead and you get a rock thrown at you.

A brush with the verge keeps me on the edge, too close to the edge and you are in.

Danger everywhere.

Worth the risk though.
