The Gates Are All That Remains.

My grandfather was stationed at RAF Compton Bassett near Calne, Wiltshire between 1940-1941. The camp eventually closed its gates in 1964 and the memorial plaque that was left there to commemorate the camp has been stolen! Why on earth would someone want to steal a memorial plaque?
Hills Landfill site has now taken over and all that remains are the gates.
