Rubber Duckie, You're the One

"Rubber Duckie, You're the one,
You make bathtime lots of fun,
Rubber Duckie I'm awfully fond of you", sung by Jim Henson as Ernie on Sesame Street, written by Jeff Moss. First broadcast on Febuary 25, 1970.

Today is Rubber Duckie Day! Few toys have had the 'staying power' to achieve such popularity generation after generation as this iconic bright yellow bath toy. The warm bright colors and pleasant expression beckons us to play. Their simplicity in design and function is part of thier allure. They float, squeak and squirt. That's it. Nothing to break, no batteries to run down, no possibility to get emotionally hooked. However the possibilities are open ended to the imagination.

The Rubber Duckie conjures up images of good clean fun, simple childhood delights and warm wonderful feelings of adventure.

"Oh, every day when I, make my way to the tubby
I find a little fellow who's cute and yellow and chubby!
Rub-a-dub-dubby"
