Scottish Mining Museum

I visited the scottish mining museum today, it's a great deal at £6.50 to get in and a free membership for the year to return as many times as you wish.

Included in the visit there is a tour with a genuine miner who use to work at the coal mine, he was called Jim.

Jim use to be an engineer and although it may sound a safe job he did have to traveling to the coal face to dismantle the machinery and move it to the new location once that coal face was cleared of coal.

At the end of the tour you are taken into the main wheel house where Jim's face lit up as he had the opportunity to show you the fully functional winding engine and demonstrated it on request.

My photo today is of some of the impressive machinery that was part of the winding engine, amazing, the old days when Scotland had purpose and could make things.

Some more photos here including me enjoying a beer with some of the old miners and a scary (mannequin) boy who sat in a tiny hole with the job of opening and closing a pit door for 6 hours at a time are here
