Garde Républicaine à Cheval

The Garde Républicaine is a national police force in France, here on duty overlooking the Place de la Concorde. It's fun to view it LARGE.

The sprawling Place is at the heart of Paris, at the base of the Champs Elysées, the wide avenue which leads gracefully uphill to the Arc de Triomphe. More of the Place appears in a blip from last year.

The obelisk in the background marks the center of the Place; it originates from the Temple of Luxor and was offered by Egypt to the French in the 1830s. The ferris wheel dates just from the last couple of years; I have never ridden it, but I have been eying it this stay for a possible blip.

We've seen police on horseback occasionally in Paris; I don't remember noticing whether they were from the Garde Républicaine.
