You might just be able to make out, at the top of the image, the words
Tom Waits Mule Variations Great album that came out in 1999.
This is a shot of the CD cover, though I've cropped it and messed about with it quite a bit. He just seems to be saying, 'Follow me.' I began to wonder, 'Where to?'


We Are As Our Lives Lead Us

You might get the guide
in the uniform.
His shoes are polished
and he smiles.
Nothing is too much trouble.
He follows the signposts
and is polite.

You might get the guy
with the stubble.
He stinks of the bottle
and spits.
He has one leg
and calls you gringo.
He will not speak your lingo.
You learn his
and he leads you
hacking through the undergrowth.

However tough the journey
every traveller arrives.
We are where our deaths find us.
