Goodbye Henry Africa!

Demolition has started at our local cafe called Henry Africa! It was terminally damaged after the earthquake and has been sitting surrounded by fences ever since.

The poor people who own it have lost their business, and we have lost another piece of history.

We have lived here for 40 years and the place started as a grocers, then became a flat, where there was a murder - I happened to be passing as they carried the poor victim out! Then a restaurant and cafe bar.

Many years of history - over 100, which is OLD here! (not to Northern Hemispherers!) But it was sad to see the old landmark go. At this point they are lifting the floor out, and they seemed to be trying to save the old wood for recycling which is great as it will be native timber.

Now we have to wait and see what is built in its place. the future is coming!!
