Anne's Daily Encounters

BLA BLA BLA BLA

1000'S and 1000'S 15.000 students from all over the country gathered in The Hague in protest against the dutch government today. Their reply to mr. Halbe Zijlstra secretary of the Ministery of Education was this Bla Bla Bla hand-out. He's joked the day before that this would be his largest birthday party (as he has his birthday today) but no-one had come to celebrate with him but all had come to protest against the policy of this new and rightwing government which demands that students finish their studies in less years of studying and must pay much more for their studies; thus studying becomes a chance for the rich and a pitfall for the poorer. With the new poliicy students must lend heavily in order to pay for their studies and then pay off that loan with the heavy interest over many years to the dutch state that eagerly lended them. And students are denied the time to socialize and work and research while studying as their studies must be ended in short periods of time.

NO WAY that this financial crisis is to get us back to class society with the Haves and the Haves Not!!

Two hours of protest gave this new generation to the present government and a single thrown tomato did cut the speech of secretary Halbe Zijlstra in short. That was quite a surprise to me and many. No discussion? No new mantra's of his?
