I Have A Cunning Plan!

Muddy Two Shoes

Sunday is traditionally the "Long Run" for any distance athletes. It's unusual that we haven't had any orienteering for the last two weekends on a Sunday, although we made up for it by running, instead, at events on Saturdays.
Making the most of this time to get some long runs under our belts, my daughter (Charlotte) and myself have got mum (Amanda) to drive us out to North Ferriby and we have run home.
We don't take the soft option. Starting from the new link road roundabout between North Ferriby and Melton we start up the long gradual off-road climb through the woods on the Wolds Way Long Distance Footpath towards Melton Quarry.
Running through the Scout Camp before crossing the road at the Cement Works we then climb again to the eastern edge of Welton Woods. A right turn takes us along the edge of the woods and out towards Wauldby Green from which point we then take a left and cross the link woods, dropping down into Elloughton Dale bottom.
A short, but very steep climb, sees us across the top on a woodland path before descending Spout Hill, first on road, then cutting right through the stile and reaching Brantingham Church.
Right on the road to the car park and left again back onto woodland paths climbing through Brantingham Woods, before dropping down to Woo Dale Farm. The toughest climb follows, in three parts, but continuous, Charlotte usually does her dying swan impression as we reach the summit at Mount Airy Farm, then it's a short shallow climb up past the private airfield and a technical descent down a rooty narrow path and out on to Beverley Road. Miraculously she recovers here and really pushes for home, sometimes running on the road/pavement and sometimes along the grass verges.
Finishing at Market Place shows an improvement on last week of just over a minute, the progress is steady but sure - and that's the whole point of the exercise, so mission accomplished :)
