Rambling Ruins

Today's challenge was to photograph a ruin, so I did a self portrait. Then we headed off to Llangollen. We climbed high up into the singing hills to Castell Dinas Bryn which towers high above the town. It must have been an impressive structure when it was built in 1260 with it's commanding views along the Dee Valley. However 17 years later it was burned down and abandoned.

A few miles up the road towards the Horse Shoe Pass lies the ruined Abbey of Valle Crucis. Founded by the Cistercians in 1201 This image shows the vaulted ceiling of the Chapter House while the window on the right is where the Abbey's books would have been kept.

We came across this lonely monk...
