The water of life

Whisky, as opposed to Whiskey which is Irish or American, was originally Scottish hence the name came from Scottish Gaelic "Uisge Beata".

It does not appeal to many tastes but to those who know and enjoy such spirit it can be of immense pleasure to taste. Of the many Single Malt Whiskys the one with the smokiest and most peaty flovour has to be Laphroaig. This comes from Islay where there are quite a number of distilleries.

Islay is pronounced Isla.

Other similar spirits from Islay include Lagavulin, Caol Isla, Bunnahabhain, Bowmore, Ardbeg, Bruichladdich, Kilchoman and Port Ellen (though this distillery is now closed)

I think I might take a wee dram now............
