Verticals on an Edinburgh skyline.

A slightly unusual view but with a significance for today. The three verticals to the left are the Political Martyrs Memorial in Calton Graveyard ( dedicated to the victims of the 1793 sedition trials but only erected in 1844) , the clock on the old North British , now the Balmoral , Hotel and in the middle the central spire of St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral which is the largest ecclesiastical building in Scotland and which was consecrated on this day - the 25th January , Burns Day - in 1879. It is said that there has been a service inside every day since.
