Operation Avocado

This gangly, slightly wonky, plant is an avocado plant which i grew from an avocado stone about a year ago.

I was told that if I snipped the top of it off, it may grow branches from where it has shed leaves. I'm not convinced but as it is in danger of losing all it's leaves I've decided to give it a go.
