One Thousand Words a Day

The show must go on

I always feel a pang of admiration when I walk through the street markets ofzKorea in the depths of winter. The streets are lined with elderly ladies ('halmoni'), peeling vegetables and selling their wares: rain, hail, or shine.

One thing I found funny when I first came to Korea was the brightly coloured attire donned by ladies of a certain age. The paisley flower patterns, luminous leggings, visors and dust masks really amount to quite the costume.

I love shopping for vegetables at these markets, too. The produce is fresher, the price lower and the service authentic and Korean.
