Swans

A very cold walk into town today along the River Thames and then the Kennet and Avon canal. We had to go and buy a birthday card for my nephew who is 20 next week. I also picked up some extra bird food to try and tempt a few visitors into the garden for the RSPB Garden Bird Watch this weekend.

This large group of swans hang around by the footpath waiting for people to feed them. They were pleased to see us but seemed a bit surprised we had not brought bread for them. The pigeons descended from all round and lined up on the fence between the path and the river ready for food too (this line-up was almost my blip for today but seemed a bit grainy on closer inspection). They too were not very impressed with our lack of food. Sorry birds.

Lots of other birds along the river, coots, a heron, Canada geese, ducks and a pair of grebes. No cormorants today.

Other sites of note - more up-ended Tesco trolleys in the canal, a dead swan floating in the canal and the statutory drug dealer dressed in lots and lots of warm layers clutching his walkie-talkie. Urban living at its best!
