Valley Mist

We are staying at Les Arcs 1600. Les Arcs actually consists of a number of little villages, all defined by their height. 1600 and 1800 are on a mountain shelf overlooking the town of Bourg St Maurice in the Tarentaise Valley. There is a funicular from the station directly up to Les Arcs which makes for easy access for those coming for the day, as well as the road for those with baggage.

The weather is very bright and cold and the effect of that, it appears, is that there is a temperature inversion so that by the late afternoon the valley is covered in mist. Then the mountain tops turn pink with the sunset above the mist. it is staggeringly beautiful.
