Over the Horizon

In the village of Ban Nae Sai

I worked with Bart today on our short film for Pun Pun's website. Bart, an intern from Holland is a beginner film maker like me and has already put together much of the material for the short film which revolves around Jon Jondai's story.

I'm helping him with the story and crafting images to it. Think expanses of green watery rice fields, people planting, and small village life juxtaposed with images of spraying pesticides, long rows of synthetic fertilizers, and fields lying fallow from lack of money to plant. These images give flesh to Jon's interview binding the story to that imagination.

We edited in Yao's beautiful little coffee house and in the evening went down with Peggy to try to capture some images of village life and farm material for the film. We didn't' get much great footage we liked, but did get to meet many of the villagers eager to talk. They showed us all sorts of things they are up to from home gardens in their backyards, to woodcarvings they sell, to the fertilizer store, and the local mango patch. I snapped this adorable little girl along the way. Her mother was so proud she was practically begging me for a picture!
