Winter scent

The Mahonia by our gate has been flowering for a few weeks now but still has many buds to open. When walking by there is a beautiful perfume similar to that of Lily of the Valley.

The Mahonia originated in Asia and North and Central America and was named after Bernard McMahon a horticulturist of Philadelphia who obtained the shrub from Lewis and Clark on their return from their expedition to the Pacific Coast in 1804.

Today was very dark and windy and not a day to take photographs inside or out!
