Photo-a-day retirement

Fallen giant - earthquake collateral damage!

We have been doing our usual bike ride around the river, but now there's a whole new range of sounds and sights. Where it was quiet, now there's always crashing and banging as demolition goes on, hammering and sawing as reconstruction starts, and the sound of the pumps which are being used on the sewers which are of course broken still. there's always trucks, pumping out the movable toilets, and vans belonging to electricians and plumbers etc.

Not the relaxing ride it once was. Always has a sad tinge now. And we notice that people are starting to move back into condemned houses, as they find they can't afford to pay rent and a mortgage, for maybe years. It must be soul destroying.

Now we have started to notice every time there is a wind, more trees and branches come down. Maybe they have been cracked while the ground is shaking, or had their roots wrenched, but it's sad to see them lying in the river.
