Drive-by retro toucan

Today was largely devoted to visiting the sick. First there was Dave, in whose place we spent New Year's Eve. He had surgery last year to remove a lump from his arm, but the lump subsequently re-established itself and was confirmed as malignant last month. He spent six hours in theatre the other day undergoing further removal surgery. This time all went swimmingly, the surgeon removed all the nastiness without any of the damaging side-effects which Dave had been warned were possible, and he was in good form and looking forward to going back home for rest and recuperation. Then there was Tony, the elder statesman of our Music Group. He's been suffering from vertigo for the past two months and also fell foul of the dreaded man-flu leading up to Christmas.

It was on the way home from these visits that I spotted this retro-looking weather vane on an off-licence premises. Fortunately the traffic lights cooperated and I just about had time while stopped to dig out the camera, get the window down, and grab this quick shot. This place has only been an off-licence for ten years or so, which means that either the owner or the architect must have decided that a bit of old-fashioned Guinness is good for you nostalgia would look good atop the building.

Apart from that, the rest of the day was spent browsing through the newly-discovered Deutsche Grammophon web shop and spending far too much money downloading some great music. Unfortunately, this (along with a pretty hectic weekend meant that poor old Blipfoto was shamefully neglected. It's now Tuesday afternoon and I've only now uploaded for Saturday and Sunday as well as this one well after the event.

Now I'm way behind once again with comments and being up to speed with what others have been up to around Blipland. And I'm afraid this situation will last another while yet, since it's now time to check out the live coverage of Steve Jobs's keynote presentation at this year's Macworld Expo in San Francisco. I'm off to do that now ...
