The Lizard Meanders

There But For the Grace...

Difficult to get up in time for the earlier mass, which we usually attend on Sundays. Instead, we went to the 11:00 a.m. service.

Just before communion, from four rows behind us we heard the sharp and sudden thud of a body falling. A woman had lost consciousness and had hit the side of her head (rather badly, there was bleeding) on the edge of the kneeler. Those immediately around her gathered quickly to check her vitals. Another parishioner came up from back of the church, saying she was a doctor. The woman regained consciousness and with much help walked slowly to the commons. In a few minutes we heard the sound of an approaching ambulance out on the street. I don't know what happened to her afterwards, but I fervently hope she has recovered...

And this is "Ghazal of the Open Water", my poem-response to today's observation on The Morning Porch, now up on Via Negativa.
