Old Schoolhouse and White Horse - Ionia #1

About 25 miles due east of us is the old (by U.S. Midwest standards :) town of Ionia, founded in the 1830s. The downtown has some charming storefronts and homes, and the surrounding area is filled with old buildings and farms. The town also is notable for being home to five Michigan State Prisons. Much more to follow.

On the way there, we pulled over to get a look at some cows but alas, the "side of the road" was in reality a ditch filled with snow. What were we thinking? It was a novice mistake. Within minutes a farmer came by in his pickup truck, stopped, pulled out his chain, hooked it to the hitch on our car, and pulled us out, all in under five minutes. Off he drove with a wave. I'm sure he and the cows were laughing at us.
