Old fashioned Singer

I walked past a store on Buchanan St, Glasgow today and behind it's windows were stacks of old sewing machines.
I noticed a few had 'Singer' written on the side. Isaac Singer designed a sewing machine in 1851 - the needle position moved up and down, and it was smaller for home use. The Singer factory in Clydebank was a huge enterprise and the old Singer clock tower used to be seen from all areas of the town. Unfortunately the clock tower and the factory are no longer in Clydebank. These old machines might not be working, but I do find it interesting how the High St retailer has used them.
West Dunbartonshire Culture Dept hold a store of old sewing machines and Clydebank library's local history department has an assortment of information on the factory.
