I Have A Cunning Plan!

After your run in an Orienteering event one of the first things you usually do is to compare route choices and generally have a moan about this or that miss-placed control (it usually isn't, it's usually YOU!). We went to Sherwood Pines (Robin Hood country) today for a Nottingham Orienteering Club event.
The last time we were here, two years ago, I remember being particularly unimpressed by the area and the course planning, this time around, while fully expecting to find a similar experience, I was very pleasently surprised!
The snow we had over November and through into January has helped to flatten the worst of the bracken and keep the bramble at bay. The course planning took you through the nicest parts of the area (I ran the Blue course) and was done intelligently, providing a good technical challenge, which you would not ordinarily expect in a flattish forest with an extensive grid of tracks and forest roads. Even my poorly right foot held out thanks mainly to the forgiving nature of the underfoot conditions. Everyone's a winner :)
Pictured are Charlotte and Amanda, post-race, looking at routes and generally having a moan (joke!) about miss-placed controls :)
