Paper Heart

Today
my heart is made of paper.
Its complicated folds
wrap in origami
all it treasures:
the happiness, the hurts,
every joy and every pain.

Today
my heart is made of paper.
It has surprising strength.
It's hard to tear,
will barely crumple,
Soft and pink as petals,
iron in its blood.

Today
my heart is made of paper.
It's had confetti days.
But, please, do not unfold it:
its creases would remain,
sharp as cuts
or for'head furrows.

Tomorrow
my heart will be flesh
and blood.
But today,
today
my heart is made
of paper.
