Tearing limbs

Every year I take on young people to share and learn what I do. The kids I work with call them "the rookies". I learn at least as much from them as they do from me.

We start as individuals, learning about each other as we work. And before we know it we become a team, a gang, a unit. We rely on each other, compensate for each other, know almost instinctively what the other is likely to be thinking. We trust.

And then each year they move on, and it's like having my limbs torn off.

But it's worth it.
