Farmhouse Kitchen

This is the kitchen I grew up in and wondered if this kitchen once looked similar.
This image was taken in the early 1950s - Note the side of bacon hanging up top right - no fridges in those days! To the right of the fire under the pictures and sewing kit there's a large sheet of paper hiding the bread oven - the door was hanging off it's hinges and Father (who took the photo) wanted it to look tidy!!
There was always an enamel bowl on the left of the hob where we washed our hands before meals. Behind the beam there was a clothes rail on a pulley, always laden with towels and sheets drying above the fire - these too have been tidied away for the photo! Friday nights a tin bath was placed in front of the fire and my brothers and I would take turns to be bathed before bedtime - youngest first!
In the mid 1980s the range was ripped out and a coal effect gas fire installed (see snapshot on left)
Late 1990s the cottage was sold and the purchaser ripped out the gas fire and 'restored' the range - my daughter went to see it but it was nothing like the original!
