reception of the bride

the reception was arranged in our ancestral house in the village itself. I am glad it worked out that way. Ceremonies look a lot different in a rural setting. Since we have to do a lot arrangements and stuff ourselves by hand, it adds a lot of personal touch to the event. Lot of people from the village came over; I got to meet a lot of relatives and cousins whom I'd not seen for ages. That's one good thing about having these family functions in the village - almost everyone comes over, even if it is for a few hours. It was Mrs Adda's first visit as well to our ancestral house and the village. So, it was almost a reception for her as well. She got dressed up in absolute traditional bengali attire and gold jewelery. The picture here shows the bride, the groom (my cousin) and the parents of the groom. My desperate attempts of making them flash their pearly whites for a picture had different effects on different people, one of whom continued to be totally indifferent :)

Once the ceremony was over and all the guests were gone, it was time to just relax, spend a few more hours together before we all part for a long time. I joined my cousins for a some drinks in the open field under the dark sky and moonlit night. This was an incredible experience. They had picked up some left over meat from lunch and a couple of whiskey bottles. To top it up, we pulled out some baby carrots and green onions from the fields to add to the menu. The flavour of fresh produce straight from the fields is so different from what we get from the market. Tasted like heaven.
