Sherramuir

"O cam ye here the fight to shun,
Or herd the sheep wi' me, man?
Or were ye at the Sherra-moor,
Or did the battle see, man?"

High above the main road from Stirling to Perth just to the north and east of Dunblane lies Sheriffmuir.

Way back in 1715 there happened a battle there between a Red-coat army under the command of John Campbell the Duke of Argyll and a Jacobite force led by the John Erskine the Earl of Mar.

The battle itself was fairly inconclusive but the absence of an outright victory for the Jacobites, pretty much put paid to their uprising, that time around.

The moor today is a pretty bleak place, and although there was no signs of a battle there sure are still plenty sheep.

We stopped off here on our way back from bridge of Allan where I took Mrs T and Breagha on a fruitless walk up the Glen Road. Well it's only a road in name, most of it was mud or a like walking in a shallow burn.

Breagha loved it. Mrs T not so much. I think my name is mud!
