Heroes

We were having a bit of a sort out of stuff this evening and i came across these old glasses which i'd semi-forgotten about.

I had actually been thinking about seeing if i could work out a blip about items that define a person, sort of a physical, material desert island discs, you know a few items that are so personal to that individual that you instantly connect the one to the other.

Anyway, these glasses came to me from my father in law and from a little old man who appeared precisely that, a little old man, harmless,weary and in no way capable of harming a fly..

i didn't really know him and i don't know if these glasses are anything he'd choose to be associated with, or pick out as an object to be representative of him, i'd guess probably not,

Not a hero then, an ordinary man, not much more than a boy at the time, doing his bit,

Name unknown but his glasses remain, the flying glasses of one of the first of the few, one of the pilots who fought and won the Battle of Britain.

How humbled do i feel tonight..
