THE LONGEST DREAM #2

MERHABA MY FRIENDS

She has her own vegetable garden, two cows,
one scrawny old goat and a dozen hens. I`m
`Self Sufficient`, She once told the local gossip,
The last time she was in the local one and only,
`Sells Everything` shop. "At extortionate Prices too"
she said to the shop assistant. She was never afraid
to speak her mind, consequently she was not well liked
by the locals, if fact she was plagued by the local Yobs.
She would not be intimidated by then.
She would often be seen banging on someones door with
her big heavy walking stick, giving verbals to some mother
or father who`s child had been making a nuisance of them
selves. Not a timid old lady at all, as they found out over
the years.
She place the book on the small table next to her chair,
and went into the kitchen to refill her glass with a little
wine, looking out of the window she could see the bundles
of firewood already chopped and stacked, ready for the on
coming winter months.
She was contemplating going outside to fetch some for the
dwindling fire, the wind and rain looked so uninviting and
she was in her night cloths too. `To hell with it` she said
out loud, a few more pages then i`m off to bed.
She returned to her rocking chair, sipping her wine with one
hand, in the the other hand she held the poker, giving the
fire a final rummage about, turning the dying embers over for
a little more warmth.
She settled back down to read a few more pages from her
book, her mind began to wander from the pages of the book,
she yawned, then sighed, `time for bed i think`. I know who
did it anyway, she smiled to her self.
The wind and rain persisted, as she made her way up the stairs to her bedroom. Sitting on the edge of the bed, she
felt old and weary, `more than usual` she said to her self.
With a heavy sigh, she pulled back the bed cloths and almost
fell into bed, she could feel the coldness of the sheets, she
curled into a ball and snuggled into the pillow to try and keep
warm.
She closed her eyes, almost instantly returning to the past,
as she always did. Memories and dreams are all she had to
remind her of the `happy times` she`d had when first she
came to live on the farm, with her new husband.
All those years ago.
