Penguin Cafe at The Usher Hall.

Maggie and I have had a really lovely day. She's not back at work yet after moving into her new pad so we met in town for coffee and then went to Yo! Sushi in Harvey Nicks for lunch. I really love sushi but don't go very often because it tends to be quite expensive for not very much - but Yo! Sushi have 'Blue Monday's' where all the blue plates are £2.30 so we could share some of them and not feel like we were breaking the bank. Which is just as well as we are both completely skint!

Tonight we were seeing Penguin Cafe at the Usher Hall. I've been a fan of Penguin cafe Orchestra for a very long time (not quite as long as they have been going, I'm not that old!) and have subjected everyone I know to it on many mix tapes over the years (yes, I know, mix tapes! that certainly marks me out as 'of a certain age' these days!). Sadly the ensemble's founder, Simon Jeffes, is no longer but his son, Arthur Jeffes, created a new band called Penguin Cafe in 2009 which continued to play the old classics mixed with his new compositions. And its brilliant! We were a bit concerned to begin with as the support act, Portico Quartet, really didn't do it for us (was quite....odd) but there was no need to worry because they were amazing. We had such a good time :)
