procrastinating

Had so much to do today that I had to sit down and play the guitar for an hour. Did put the van battery on to charge though as I'm going to re- tax it. The smell of the van after never having been in it for months had the magical quality of making me suffused with joy; smelling as it does of candle wax, inflatable boats, faint woodsmoke and freedom. I can't wait for the warmer weather so we can take off at weekends. Not that it's a camper van, just an ex Oban Express van, a Mercedes Sprinter with a cooker robbed from an abandoned caravan, rear seats from a scrappy, cupboards salvaged from the wreck of my mother's kitchen after the ceiling fell down last year and a sofa- bed. We assembled the sofa bed in the car park at Ikea, outside Edinburgh, to the astonishment and in some cases disapproval of the blonde straightened women dragging their hapless husbands into the temple of aspirational decor. Not for us though, we headed out onto the open road, bound for adventure as the children took it in turns to be sick into the bucket. Aah, the heady days of Summer, this winter has been so bitterly cold that it is now possible to feel nostalgic about vomit. Foreign secretary, William Haig was on the news today and it struck me that, even with political ideals aside, the man could never have been a world leader with that voice, he sounds like Alan Partridge doing a live broadcast.
