When I'm not working as a writer and editor of reports about education programs, I am busy with the nonprofit organization I cofounded, Copaiba Press. We publish the Copaiba Literary Review, a journal of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry written by veterans, their family members, and other affected by war. I work on everything from social media and web design to marketing, recruiting volunteers, soliciting and reviewing submissions, and managing the publication process. Anyone in Blipland want to help? Find us at www.copaiba.org.

I am delighted by birds, black coffee, smiles, figs, beams of sunshine coming though trees or clouds, feather blankets, stacks of books, strangers helping each other on the Metro, getting lost on unnamed Irish roads, the sweet bell tones of running my finger around the rim of a crystal wine glass, and rocks. And quite a few other things.

I believe photography is a type of meditation: it requires us to pay attention to the present moment and see the achingly beautiful, interesting, wild, ugly, and amazing world around us.

The next frame will be different. Pay attention now.

Now if only I could learn how to use my camera well enough to capture all of that.
