Mostly Six Five Oh

N. Fargo St.

I pass the Albina neighborhood fairly regularly and on Monday on my way home from St. Johns after the blipmeet I noticed this house from the window of the bus.  I'm not sure how much longer the house and the one standing behind it will be here, so figured I'd best go blip it today.  N. Fargo Street right now is prime real estate along the N. Williams Ave/N. Vancouver Ave corridor.  It's very close to the Legacy Emanuel Hospital campus and the Fremont Bridge off-ramp and it stands on the edge of building sites either side and behind.  I am curious that it hasn't already been demo'd, it's been a shell for some time, perhaps there are plans for it and its neighbor or perhaps an outstanding legal reason has put a stay on it coming down, when I have time I'll take a look at the public records on the properties.

This neighborhood has changed dramatically in such a short time, it's unrecognizable.   This isn't the first time the Albina neighborhood has gone through dramatic change, in the '70s large areas of it were bulldozed for development related to the hospital.  When we moved to NE Portland 7 years ago this neighborhood was punctuated with still empty blocks with nothing but one or two houses populating them.  Now, for better or for worse, development has caught up in a big way.
